Why this exists as one tool instead of two
Application forms often specifically want a percentage, while a transcript shows a CGPA — or the reverse — and switching between the two shouldn't require two different calculators or remembering which way the arithmetic goes. The one number in this calculator that isn't universal
The 9.5 factor is the widely used CBSE approximation for a 10-point scale, but it's an editable assumption here, not a rule that applies everywhere. Different boards and universities use their own conversion formulas — some rely on grade-band lookup tables rather than a flat multiplier, which can disagree with simple multiplication or division by a fraction of a point for the identical score. A job or college application expecting an "official" percentage may not accept an approximation that turns out to differ from the institution's actual formula, so always verify the official method before quoting a converted figure anywhere that matters.
