Frequently asked questions
It is your resignation date plus the number of notice-period days in your contract. The result is the date you are expected to be relieved.
Most companies count calendar days, so weekends and public holidays are included. A few count working days only — check your offer letter and adjust the days you enter.
Sometimes. Employers may allow buy-out of the remaining days or adjust against unused leave. The terms are set by your employment contract.
The resignation date is when you submit your notice; the relieving (last working) date is when your notice period ends and your employment formally concludes.
The date on your resignation letter isn't your last day — this is
Submit a resignation on 1 January with a 60-day notice period, and the actual last working day isn't some round two-month-later guess — it's a precise count forward through 60 calendar days: the 31 remaining in January, then 29 more into February, landing on 1 March. That count includes every day in between, not just working days, which is the convention most Indian employment contracts use by default.
Why "calendar days" is the detail that trips people up
A notice period stated in days almost always means calendar days — weekends and public holidays count toward it, they don't pause the clock. A minority of contracts instead specify working days only, which pushes the real last day meaningfully later than a naive count would suggest. If your offer letter uses that convention, convert your notice period into an equivalent number of calendar days before entering it here, since this calculator always counts forward day by day including weekends.
What this date actually controls
This single date drives several downstream decisions worth getting right: when you can realistically commit to a new employer's joining date, how much runway you actually have for a proper handover, and when to time any leave encashment before you exit. Two things this calculator can't see: buy-out clauses that let you shorten a notice period for a fee, and leave-adjustment rules that offset unused leave against days served — both vary considerably by employer, so confirm the specifics against your own offer letter rather than assuming the standard convention applies. Treat the date here as a solid planning anchor, not a binding legal determination of your actual last day.
