Frequently asked questions

Insured Declared Value is the current market value of your car and the maximum your insurer pays if it is stolen or totalled. A higher IDV means a higher premium but a bigger payout.

NCB is a discount for not claiming in the previous year. It rises with each claim-free year, commonly from 20% up to 50%, and is lost if you make a claim.

Riders like zero-depreciation, engine protection and roadside assistance add to the premium but improve coverage. Enter their combined cost to include them.

Real premiums depend on many factors this tool simplifies — your RTO location, engine capacity, vehicle make and model, and claims history all affect the final price.

A claim-free record is worth ₹5,400 on this policy alone

An IDV of ₹6,00,000 at a 3% base premium rate starts at ₹18,000 before any discount. A 20% no-claim bonus brings that to ₹14,400, and ₹3,000 in add-ons lands the estimated total at ₹17,400. Now compare a driver on the same IDV who's built up a full 50% NCB over several claim-free years: the discounted base drops to ₹9,000, plus the identical ₹3,000 in add-ons, for a total of just ₹12,000 — ₹5,400 cheaper than the 20%-NCB driver, purely from a longer claim-free streak.

What each number in the calculation actually represents

IDV — Insured Declared Value — is your car's current market value and the maximum an insurer pays out if it's stolen or totalled; a higher IDV raises both the premium and the payout together. NCB rewards not claiming in the previous year, climbing with each additional claim-free year and resetting to zero the moment a claim is made — which is exactly why the gap between a 20% and 50% NCB driver above is real money, not a rounding difference. Add-ons like zero-depreciation cover or roadside assistance sit on top of the discounted base, adding to the total without being touched by the NCB discount.

Why this number won't match an actual quote

This is a rough estimate; get a quote from your insurer for an accurate premium based on RTO, engine capacity, and claims history. Actual pricing also reflects the car's make and model, age, fuel type and the specific add-ons chosen, so treat this as a planning aid rather than a binding number. Use it to sanity-check renewal quotes, see concretely what protecting your NCB is worth, and weigh whether specific add-ons justify their cost. To estimate a car's IDV as it ages, the vehicle depreciation calculator is the companion tool.
