Divide the trip distance by your vehicle’s mileage to get the litres needed, then multiply by the fuel price. For 300 km at 15 km/L and ₹100/L, that is ₹2,000.

Once mileage and price are fixed, cost scales perfectly linearly
A 300 km trip in a car doing 15 km/L at ₹100/L needs 300 ÷ 15 = 20 litres, costing 20 × 100 = ₹2,000, or ₹6.67 per kilometre. Double the distance to 600 km with the identical car and fuel price, and the total doubles neatly to ₹4,000 — no recalculation needed, since the relationship is perfectly linear once mileage and price are held fixed. That linearity is what makes this calculator useful for quick mental scaling: work out the cost for any one distance, and every other distance is a simple multiple of it.
The three numbers, and how they relate
Litres needed = distance ÷ mileage; total cost = litres × fuel price; cost per kilometre falls straight out of the same two inputs as fuel price ÷ mileage. Simple arithmetic, but easy to fumble mid-trip-planning without a calculator — this tool just removes that friction.
Why the showroom mileage figure isn't the number to trust
Real-world efficiency runs meaningfully below the advertised figure — city driving, air-conditioning use, extra load and stop-start traffic all cut into it, sometimes substantially. The tank-full method is the most reliable way to measure actual mileage: brim the tank, reset the trip meter, drive normally for a few hundred kilometres, refill, then divide distance covered by litres added at that second fill. Feeding that real number into this calculator, rather than the showroom-rated one, is what makes the resulting budget trustworthy.
